There is a lagoon, named the Balos lagoon, between the island and the coast of Crete. There is an islet which forms part of a cape, through the lagoon, called Cape

Elafonisi

lafonisi (Greek: Ελαφονήσι [elafoˈnisi] "deer island") is an island located close to the southwestern corner of the Mediterranean island of Crete, of which it is administratively a part, in the regional unit of Chania. Seitan Limania Beach

Stefanos Seitan beach or Seitan Ports beach in Chania, Crete is one of the three coves created by the sea in the area of Akrotiri. The name is of Turkish origin, from the period of Ottoman rule on the island and means devilish (Devilish / Cursed Ports). This designation is due to the danger of ripples in the area. The site is also referred to as Agios Raphael, from the church located at the point where the gorge begins, as well as Agios Spyridonas from the old church that is built there in the rock. Agioi Apostoloi

The two beaches of Agioi Apostoloi are located 3 km west of Chania, in a developed tourist area. The first bay to the west, borders the beach of Glaros. It is a beautiful sandy beach, with all amenities nearby and easily accessible. West of the beach, a small peninsula is formed, which protects it from the winds, and separates it from the beach of Glaros. On the peninsula there is a beautiful grove, which is ideal for a walk, but also the church of Agios Apostolos from where the whole area takes its name.

Agia Marina beach

The seaside village of Agia Marina is located just 9 km west of Chania and opposite the island of Agios Theodoros. It is one of the most popular resorts in Crete, as well as all kinds of tourist infrastructure. The name of the area comes from the homonymous church of Agia Marina. The beach of Agia Marina is beautiful, with wonderful blonde sand and clear waters. Its western side, near the port of Platanias is scattered with small artificial piers to hold the sand and the intensity of the wave. To the east the beach becomes single and the sandy beach extends to Stalos. Throughout its length, you will find all the services offered on a well-organized beach.

Platanias beach

The seaside village of Platanias is located 11 km west of Chania and has developed very touristically. The old village is built on a hill, with fantastic sea views. The beach of Platanias starts west of the river Keritis and extends east to Agia Marina. It is a wonderful huge sandy beach. Here you will find everything that a well-organized beach offers, such as bars, umbrellas, showers, canteens, water sports, etc.
